Fit Tip of the Month - Achieving your fitness goals starts with one thing…PLANNING

When you are setting out to reach a fitness goal, it is important to ensure that your goals are as clear and as specific as possible. After you set your specific goal, it’s time to start planning! How are you going to achieve this goal and when are you going to do it by? Planning your goals can happen in a number of ways. I believe a great way to plan fitness goals is to start before you get to the gym. Plan on setting out your gym clothes before you go to bed, plan when you want to go to the gym before you do it, plan on what you are going to do at the gym before you get there.

I think for beginners a great way to stick with a workout routine is to write a workout schedule. Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California, recently studied the art and science of goal setting. She found that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis. Just the act of writing down your goals ignites an entirely new dimension of consciousness, ideas and productivity to your subconscious mind.

If you don’t want to go as far as writing out your workout plan for every single day, try writing your long term goals on a piece of paper once a week before bed time. If writing things out doesn't work for you, have a moment of peace and quiet to yourself to think about goals. All you need to do is just simply think about your goals and have an action plan on what you are going to do to get there.

Everyone has different goals and different ways of achieving them. Taking these tips can help change "wants" into "goals". "Wants" are aimlessly carried around with you, whereas "Goals" are built on a path of action.
